Hello Mary,
You did a great job explaining the difference between the two types of assessments. What type of assessment would you utilize if you had to choose? Both assessments have positives and drawbacks. I prefer assessing using a combination of assessment methods to permit a more comprehensive assessment considering various factors (Briere & Scott, 2015; Levers, 2022). This will lead to a more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. The one weakness of this idea is that the two assessments could come back contradictory. At that point, I would have to use my judgment and consult another counselor (Briere & Scott, 2015; Levers, 2022). There is always room to grow, and having a good mentor is vital in taking good care of your mental help when you are unsure or want to talk about work with others who relate (Stebnicki, 2016). The real meaning of these assessments is to get to know your patients, what trauma they encounter, and the results of that trauma. Finally and most importantly, how can you help them?
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Ps(s) 34:18 NLT). In times of trouble, survivors must be reminded that God is close by and wants them to seek him. As counselors, we can be the light. God called us to this job to be His light. There is no mistake. We are on this journey for no reason. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubles and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NLT). Encouraging our patients to read the Bible and pointing out verses that bring comfort is a way to bring comfort to their lives.
Blessings,
Emma
