What is the independent variable in this experiment?
  • w10v2

What is the dependent variable in this experiment?
  • w10v3

What variables did the experimenter control in this experiment? List all the variables controlled in the experiment.

Part 2)For this lab assignment, you are going to write the data (i.e. methods) and findings sections of your research report.Make sure to read my comments on your W7L2 and W9L21 to w9L25 before you do this lab assignment.

Describe what the General Social Survey is. Make sure that your description contains the following information:What does this survey examine? Who conducts this survey? Who are the respondents in this survey?Use the Internet to find the info you need to describe the survey.Make sure to indicate the source of the info.-----------------------------------------------“Every time you quote, paraphrase, or summarize information from an outside source, you must provide an in-text citation. It points your reader to the source's full citation in your list of references at the end of your paper. For any type of resource (article, book, website, etc.), a basic in-text citation includes the author's name and the publication year (example: Smith 2013). Use the organization responsible for the content as the author if no individual can be identified.” (Helena College Library 2021). [<= This indicates that I got this info from this source.]If the webpage you found does not list the date of creation, list the year as “n.d.” (which means “no date”). For example, if the creation date is not listed, the source should be listed as (Helena College Library n.d.).Please note that an exact quote must be placed in quotation marks (" ").

    (1) Write your research hypothesis.(2) Identify your independent and dependent variables.(3) Copy the wording of the questions that go with the independent and dependent variables.(4) Describe what these variables measure..-------------------------------------------------------------.To get the wording of the variables, go tohttps://sda.berkeley.edu/sdaweb/analysis/?dataset=gss18.Click on “Standard Codebook” listed at the top of the page, then click on “Alphabetical Variable List”. Locate the name of your variables..Click on the variable name to get the wording. The wording listed in the section titled “Text of this Question or Item”.).----------------------------.Another way to find the wording: Go to the GSS site, and type the variable name of your independent variable in the space indicated below and click on “View”.

    (1) Write your hypothesis..(2) Present the frequency distribution table for the independent variable..Table 1: Frequency Distribution of (name of your independent variable).[Paste your table here].Beneath the table, (1) describe how many respondents answered the question, and (2) describe how the respondents are distributed over the categories of this variable using the %s in the table.
  • wk10-L4

    (1) Write your hypothesis again..(2) Present the frequency distribution table for the dependent variable..Table 2: Frequency Distribution of (name of your dependent variable).[Paste your table here].Beneath the table, (1) describe how many respondents answered the question, and (2) describe how the respondents are distributed over the categories of this variable using the %s in the table.
  • wk10-L5

    (1) Write your hypothesis again..(2) Present the crosstab of the independent and dependent variables..Table 3: Crosstab of (name of your independent and dependent variables).[Paste your table here]. Beneath the table:(i) Describe how the respondents are distributed in the table.(ii) Examine if the independent and dependent variables are related or not using appropriate %s in the table.
    • To see if the variables are related or not, compare %s within each column (i.e. each category of the dependent variable). If the %s are similar to each other, then the variables are not related. If the %s are different from each other, the variables are related. The more different these percentages are, the more strongly the variables are related.
    • You did a similar analysis for Week 9 Lab assignments (w9L5 and w9L6: Race and Political Party Affiliation).
(iii) If the variables are related, describe how the independent variable affects the dependent variable.(iv) Discuss if your hypothesis is confirmed or rejected by the crosstab analysis.
