Overview
In an 8 – 10 page paper, double spaced, discuss a current or past social movement of your choice. Consider the movement in the context of theories and concepts we have considered, the role of social movement coalitions, the movement’s origins, formation, historical precedents, successes and failures. What problem is it addressing? Does it have a future? If so, what are your expectations? Describe constituencies, frames, mobilization, use of media, tactics, etc. Consider movement maintenance, growth and decline, macro, miso and micro issues. Also, discuss counter movements. What do you believe, and why, is or may be the impact of the movement? How has (if it has) the movement impacted you, your communities, and your understanding? Please include references and footnotes.
(Optional) Compare and contrast your analysis two social movements. How are the movements similar and different? How do the comparative analyses inform your understanding such as the problems being addressed, the movements’ dynamics, characteristics, impact, mobilization, tactics, coalitions, threats and prognoses?
