Advanced Pollution Prevention

Overview

Please respond to Jesus. with 250. words

Part 1:

Hello everyone, my name is Jesus, I go by Chuy at work, and I currently live and work in Chandler, AZ. Here we are close to finishing a semiconductor, we are finalizing start-up stages. I am privileged to serve as a safety engineer for Hoffman Corp. I’m proudly working on a project where, at some point in time, there were over 30 subcontractors and 8,000 employees, not to mention the 35,000 employees who went through onboarding orientation. However, now, this project is coming to an end, with 300 employees currently working. I am seeking my next adventure in my safety professional career. So, if someone is hiring, I can send my resume. I gained a lot of experience through this monstrous project and have great references that can vouch for me.

I currently have a master’s degree in exercise science, and I plan to pursue another master’s degree in occupational safety and health/ environmental management. I chose to further and expand my education through CSU because, thus far in my journey at CSU, I have found that my professors have been more than educators. I strongly believe that, thus far, my professors have been mentors who have challenged my critical thinking skills and have also educated me for new opportunities that arise.

Through this course, my goal is to expand my knowledge in the environmental department. I will also be a step closer to accomplishing my degree goal by graduating this upcoming December. Lastly, I foresee myself assisting other construction companies that seek guidance and support in improving their safety programs and company safety cultures.

Part 2:

Working in construction presents many challenges for companies undertaking the work, including the client for whom the project is being built. One key challenge faced by corporations relates to federal, state, and local agencies. Environmental compliance and regulations form a structured system of laws that guide companies in reducing waste from construction projects to protect the environment. Dupont, R. (2016) states, “Environmental regulations are not simply a collection of laws on environmental topics. They are an organized system of statutes, regulations, and guidelines that minimize, prevent, and punish those responsible for the consequences of damages to the environment” (Dupont, 2016). With this in mind, it is in the best interest of corporations to establish proper hazardous waste controls for activities that generate environmental hazards.

Ideally, if I were managing the environmental section of a job site, I would separate solid waste from chemical waste. My reasoning is to prevent cross-contamination during waste sorting. Additionally, the solid waste would be sorted into three categories: wood, metal, and plastic. These sorted materials would then be recycled at recycling centers. As mentioned earlier, chemical waste would be separated from solid waste in a different sorting area. The purpose of this separation is to distinguish RCRA from non-RCRA chemicals. Distinguishing includes identifying with proper containing and storing methods. This sorting method would help a job site identify RCRA chemicals, which pose significant dangers. Considering this, risk assessments and risk management plans would ensure that safety measures are met when sorting these chemicals.

I believe it is up to all personnel to protect our environment when environmental concerns arise. Getting ahead with proper implementation of risk assessments and risk management plans are key point in the stages of strategically planning for compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. One must know what the guidelines are when coming up with handling all waste materials.
