My favorite photograph process that we learned about was the Daguerreian Process. I found it extremely interesting that instead of today's digital photography, a person had to craft a photo by using chemicals and very specific processes. When I think of old photographs I think of weathered paper with an unclear or damaged photo. However I thought it was interesting that some of the first photographs were on sturdy metal plates that could last hundreds of years under the right conditions. It amazes me that Daguerre somehow figured out that through specific steps and with the use of chemicals like mercury, bromine, and iodine, that a photograph could be made into a physical object. The Daguerreian Process and early photography was something that always seemed like pure magic to me, now I'll be able to take the new knowledge of early photography with me throughout my whole life.
