Overview
Assessment Description In this task, you will identify a policy that has been implemented in another country and outline why and how the policy should be transferred into the Australian policy context. Your analysis will be presented as a policy brief. You will take on the role of a senior public servant and write the brief for the relevant Australian minister, responsible for the portfolio area covered by your policy proposal. Relevance Policy transfer (covered in Week 7) is an important part of evidence-based policy making and policy ideas are frequently borrowed from other jurisdictions, particularly when responding to new challenges. This task prepares you for the kinds of work you would undertake as a senior public servant or policy professional. It equips you with practical skills in evidence-based policymaking, including how to gather and evaluate international policy evidence, how to adapt it to local political and institutional settings, and how to present it in the concise and accessible form of a policy brief.
