Overview
The Assignment
In 3–4 pages, address the following:
- Summarize the most salient aspects of the case.
- Explain which theoretical orientation you believe would be most helpful for this client’s presenting concerns and history.
- Explain your moderate-level case conceptualization (also sometimes referred to as case formulation). Include the four components of a case conceptualization as outlined by Sperry and Sperry (2020):
- Diagnostic formulation: Describe what happened to bring the client to therapy and what a DSM-5 diagnosis might be.
- Clinical formulation: Explain the patterns you see in this client, which may include symptoms, difficulties, or interpersonal issues, which explain why their presenting concerns may have happened.
- Cultural formulation: Explain the role that environmental, familial, social, and cultural factors may play in the client’s presenting concerns.
- Treatment formulation: Describe treatment goals, strategy, and potential challenges for this client.
- Identify at least one specific intervention from your chosen theoretical orientation that would be appropriate for this client. Explain how your case conceptualization supports the use of this intervention.
Throughout this Final Project, explicitly indicate how the chosen theoretical orientation informs the case conceptualization, which then leads to the choice of interventions.
Support your paper with at least two additional peer-reviewed journal articles that discuss the theoretical orientation you have chosen for this Assignment.
This Final Project is not intended to be a formal essay. Instead, you may include your response to each element of the prompt and consider using headings to guide your reader.
