Hi everyone,
My name is Kayla, and I am excited to be taking Art: Film as an Art Form. I am currently majoring in Business Administration, and I also have an interest in medical administration and office management. I am a single mom to a six year old daughter. Balancing school, family, and daily responsibilities keeps me busy, but I am looking forward to learning and connecting with everyone in this class. School has been an amazing outlet to keep me busy as well as motivated, it has me striving to be my best.
I have taken art classes before and have always enjoyed them. In high school, art was actually my favorite class, and I took art courses throughout all four years. I also took Art 101 (Survey of Art History) , and I really enjoyed learning about the history behind famous artworks and understanding the stories, cultures, and time periods that influenced them. That class made me appreciate art on a deeper level rather than just looking at the finished piece.
In this course, I expect to learn how to analyze films and understand the artistic elements beneath the surface of a movie. I am interested in learning more about cinematography, storytelling, symbolism, sound, editing, and the creative choices filmmakers make to communicate emotions and ideas. I enjoy watching movies, but I have never really studied film from an artistic perspective, so I am excited to develop those analytical skills and gain a greater appreciation for film as an art form!
Choosing a favorite movie is honestly very difficult because I have favorites in many different genres. However, one of my all time favorites is Top Gun: Maverick. I love the movie because of the incredible action, the intensity of the flight scenes, and the strong sense of teamwork throughout the story. The movie does a great job of showing how trust, communication, and leadership are essential when working together toward a difficult goal. The training scenes and missions keep me engaged because they are exciting and suspenseful, and I also enjoy the emotional moments between the characters. The cinematography is amazing, especially during the flying sequences, and the movie makes you feel like you are right there in the cockpit with the pilots. Overall, it is a movie that combines action, emotion, teamwork, and determination, which is why it is one of my favorites.
I really look forward to learning with all of you this semester and hearing about everyone's favorite films!
