This week, the biggest new thing I learned was about how cookies work. I thought that cookies were a type of cache that stored themselves in your browser, but now I know that they're small text files that the web server saves to the hard drive of your computer. I also never knew the difference between first-party and third-party cookies; first-party cookies are cookies placed by the site you're visiting, while third-party cookies are ones placed by other companies than the one that owns the site you're visiting.

I also didn't know that private browsing stops cookies from saving to your computer. I think it's important to know how things like cookies work, since you want to know exactly how much access companies have to your data and by what means they're doing it through. So I'm glad to have learned about this, I'll definitely use private browsing more now than I know that it automatically doesn't let cookies save for sites without needing to decline a pop-up.
