This week's chapter gave me a much better understanding of how wireless networking works and why security is just as important as having a fast internet connection. I learned that wireless networks come in different forms, including WLANs for homes and businesses, WWANs that provide internet access over cellular networks, and MAN technologies like WiMAX and LTE that cover much larger geographic areas. It was interesting to see how wireless technology has continued to improve, allowing people to stay connected almost anywhere through mobile devices and broadband wireless networks. I also found it helpful to compare Wi-Fi standards and Bluetooth because each technology is designed for different purposes based on range, speed, and the number of devices it can support.

The section on wireless security was the most valuable part of the chapter. I learned that because wireless networks transmit data through the air, they are more vulnerable to attacks such as hacking, malware, interception, and unauthorized access. The slides explained several ways to secure a network, including using WPA encryption instead of WEP, enabling MAC address filtering, hiding the SSID, changing the default router username and password, and using security software to monitor the network. I also learned about threats like over-the-shoulder attacks, evil twin access points, man-in-the-middle attacks, Bluetooth attacks such as bluejacking and bluesnarfing, and the risks of downloading unsafe smartphone apps or using public Wi-Fi. The best practices that stood out to me were keeping devices updated, using strong passwords, turning off automatic Wi-Fi connections, disabling Bluetooth when it is not needed, and avoiding sensitive activities like online banking while connected to public wireless networks. Overall, this chapter showed me that wireless technology is incredibly convenient, but protecting personal information requires good security habits and staying aware of potential threats.
