To access the internet requires a "browser”. The browser receives the computer code sent across the internet and turns it into the web page that displays on your screen. The history of browsers is a colorful and tumultuous one that involved many "browser wars” as different browser creators vied for the attention of the user. Different types of browsers have been created to meet the needs of different computer systems and now the expanding tablet and cell phone market.
There are several different companies that write browser software, although some only work on certain devices. The best known is Chrome from Google, but there are other major browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer (Although Internet Explorer is now slated to be discontinued). There are also many other browsers such as Safari for Apple or perhaps Dolphin for Android, who have more specific markets such as Apple or Android devices.
Search the internet for browser companies (search for "top browsers”, for example) and select five that interest you. You MUST include Chrome and Firefox, but the other three are your choice. Research those five in more depth and write a report on your findings.
Your report should have at least a paragraph for each browser. Include the web site for each browser company and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each browser. Discuss who would be most likely to use each browser and why. End the report with a summative paragraph comparing and contrasting the different browsers you researched and where you might find them in use.
