Overview
Case Study 3
Write an organizational forecast (1200-2000 words) for your selected organization. So for this one the instructions are to write about the NBA (National Basketball Association). The last attachment gives some instructions on how to write an organization forecast. The other attachments are my two previous case studies in case you need to understand more.
A forecast is a projection of future conditions based on analysis of current trends within an organization and the society in which it operates. This means thinking critically about coming challenges for leadership. The goal is to describe a range of uncertainties in the broadest terms possible, rather than to predict possible outcomes.
You must include all the elements below to receive full credit.
I. Introduction
- Introduce your organization;
- Summarize the current state of organization (Part II);
- Summarize the coming challenges for the organization (Part III);
- Present your thesis as a general recommendation for leadership (Part IV).
II. Current state of the organization
a. What are the STRENGTHS of the organization?
Include 3-5 areas that explain the organization’s current success
b. What are the WEAKNESSES of the organization?
Include 3 areas where the organization currently struggles
c. What are the GOALS of the organization?
Include 3 expressed objectives of the organization for the future.
III. Coming challenges for the organization
Given the current state of the organization as described in Part II:
- Describe the range of challenges the organization will face in the SHORT-TERM (i.e., the next 5 years);
- Describe the range of challenges the organization will face in the LONG-TERM (i.e., the next 20 years);
- For both the short- and the long-term, explain which challenges are CENTRAL (i.e., more likely to happen) and which are OUTLIERS (i.e., less likely to happen).
IV. Recommendations for leadership
- Given the coming challenges for the organization as described in Part III, provide THREE recommendations for future leadership, including:
- What practical actions will leaders need to take to adopt these recommendations?
- What leadership skills will these actions require?
- Does the organization possess the capacity to take on these recommendations in its current state?
