Imagine that you have been invited to write a piece for medium.com. You are asked to inform readers about the latest ideas and research on a sociological topic that is your expertise. This is the context of your writing for this assignment. You’re being asked to write in an engaging way that is accessible to diverse kinds of readers. Try to avoid jargon—and make sure you clearly explain in plain language any terms you feel it necessary to use. Also, you are writing as an expert so you need to speak with some authority. Because most things you read online are more than simply text, feel free to include pictures, interesting formatting, etc. into your word document (but keep in mind that you are limited by what can go into a word document).
