Cybercommunities of Self-Injury

Overview

Cybercommunities of Self-Injury

NOTE: POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR THE INCLUSION OF OUTSIDE REFERENCES. THE RESOURCES YOU NEED TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS ARE IDENTIFIED ON THE COURSE SITE. IN OTHER WORDS, USE ONLY MATERIAL FROM YOUR TEXT IN GENERAL AND ANY RELEVANT MATERIAL FROM POSTED AUDIO FILES.

1.What role has the Internet played in fostering a sense of community among self-injurers? What was their situation prior to the Internet? How have loner deviants been transformed into "cybercolleagues" and with what impact? Be specific.

2. How did the self-injurers experience and navigate cybercommunities? Be specific.

3. The Internet has allowed loner deviants, including self-injurers, to create and sustain cybercommunities. As members of these cybercommunities, self-injurers present very different (authentic) selves online than they do in face-to-face interaction. Do you think such cybercommunities help set people on the path to normative behavior or do they reinforce (even amplify) deviant behavior? Perhaps either is possible? Be specific.

Your submission should be a minimum of four well-developed paragraphs. Remember, a paragraph has at least five sentences. Please proofread your work, as spelling, grammar, and punctuation count.P
