Overview
Deviance Paper: You will be required to write a 3-4 page paper that considers a form of deviance covered in our course. You will specify and discuss one form/type of deviance or crime (e.g. cocaine use, 1st degree murder, suicide, voyeurism, etc.) and provide a detailed discussion of it. Specifically you will need to cover: 1) a discussion of the history/background of the behavior including historical and contemporary perspectives/responses to the behavior, 2) a discussion of its current legal standing, and analysis of the regulations, sanctions, and stigmas surrounding it, 3) a discussion of two different theoretical perspectives and how each perspective would explain the behavior, 4) your perspective on the behavior as well as an explanation for changes to how society should respond to the behavior and why. *You will need to utilize course materials and engage in your own independent research to complete this assignment. You will need to cite your sources in the text of your paper and provide a references page (I do not care about citation or reference page style – just be consistent throughout the paper.
