Overview
- Using the GSS system file, run frequencies and produce bar graphs on ARREST, ABNOMORE,DIVORCE, FEFAM, RELIG, MARITAL,TEENSEX, and DEGREE.
Requesting frequencies and graphs:
Click Analyze in the main menu
Click Descriptive Statistics in the Statistics menu
Click Frequencies in the Summarize submenu
Move variables from the source dialog box to the target dialog box
Click Charts
Select Barchart(s) from the chart Type radio buttons
Click Continue
Click Ok
a. Determine the level of measurement for each variable.
b. Using the percentage column, describe the distributions for the variables: DIVORCE, ARREST (Hint: Report each category).
c. Using the cumulative percentage column, describe the distribution for the variable DEGREE. (Hint: Report each category).
2. Run frequency and produce histogram on CHILDS
Requesting frequencies and graphs:
Click Analyze in the main menu
Click Descriptive Statistics in the Statistics menu
Click Frequencies in the Summarize submenu
Move variable CHILDS (number of children) from the source dialog box to the target box
Click Charts
Select Histogram from the chart Type radio buttons
Click Continue
Click Ok
Answer the following question:
What percentage of respondents had three children? Which category has the lowest percentage of children? Which category has the highest percentage of children? What percentage of the respondents had 3 or less children?
