socioogy discussion question

Initial Post: (5-10 sentences, or more)

Listen to the podcast "Citizen Thind" and answer the following prompts: How did racial ideologies and institutional racism determine and inform the U.S. Supreme ruling in the Ozawa (1922) and Thind (1923) cases? How was whiteness defined in each case? How did the rulings contradict each other? Your answer should identify and expand upon at least one racial ideology (biological, cultural, or colorblind) and a form of institutional racism (e.g., specific immigration or citizenship laws).

Response Post: (5-10 sentences, or more)

Although many European groups (Irish, Italians, and Jews) experienced discrimination, in what ways were their experiences different from Asian immigrants (including those from Japan, China, and India) in terms of either U.S. immigration or citizenship laws (i.e., institutional racism)? Which process do you think best reflects their incorporation in the U.S. — assimilation or racialization? Make sure to support with evidence from this week's materials.
