Overview
Using the instructions below, conduct frequency distributions and the three measures of central tendency for the variables: CHILDS, CARESELF, PRAY, DEGREE, CLASS, ATTEND, BIGBANG, BOYORGRL, GRASS,HELPPOOR
Requesting frequency and measures of central tendency
Click Analyze in the main menu
Click Descriptive statistics in the Statistics menu
Click Frequencies in the Summarize submenu
Move variables from the dialog box to the target dialog box
Click Statistics
Select mean, median and mode
Click Continue
Click OK
.Answer the following questions:
1. Given that the distribution is symmetrical, which is the most appropriate measure of central tendency for each variable (explain your answer by stating the level of measurement for each variable).
Please organize your answers into the following format:
Variable Name level of measurement measure of central tendency
2. According to our data, what was the average number of children (CHILDS)? Hint: Do not round the number. Assume that the data is badly skewed, what would be the appropriate measure of central tendency to report?
Use the instructions below to examine measures of dispersion:
Click Analyze
Click Descriptive Statistics
Click Descriptives
Select variables EDUC (respondent’s level of education), PAEDUC (father’s level of education), from the source list and paste it to the target list
Click Options
Select mean, standard deviation, variance, range
Click Continue
Click OK
Respondent’s education and father’s education
3. What is the range and standard deviation for the respondent’s education? What is the range and standard deviation for father’s level of education? (the numbers are in the output)
4. Which sample scored higher in education? The respondent or the father? Explain your answer.
5. Which is more heterogeneous? Explain your answer.
