Overview

Test the hypothesis that African Americans are significantly different from whites on their level of confidence in clergy. Set alpha=.05.

  1. State the assumptions (Hint: Refer to the notes from Chapter 9)
  2. State the null and the alternate hypotheses (Hint: Refer to the notes from chapter 9)
  3. Decision to reject or not to reject and conclusion. Alpha level is .05. Show your work by comparing the p value with the alpha level. (Hint: See below)
  4. Which group has more confidence in clergy? Explain.

Using ONEWAY procedure, test for a statistically significant difference between a woman’s degree (DEGREE) and number of children (CHILDS). Using degree as the independent variable and number of children as the dependent variable, we want to assess whether there is a relationship between educational attainment and number of children.

  1. State the assumptions (Hint: Refer to the notes from chapter 10)
  2. State the null and the alternate hypotheses (Hint: Refer to the notes from chapter 10)
  3. Report the observed value of F (Hint: the number is in your output).
  4. Decision to reject or not to reject and conclusion (See below for comparing p value with alpha level). Alpha level is .05. Show your work by including the p value and alpha level.
  5. Which groups are significantly different from one another? (Hint: Look at the Post Hoc table)
  6. What are the mean ages for the different degree levels? (Hint: Look at the Post Hoc table)

Follow these instructions to make a decision and conclusion:

If p value < alpha level Reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is a significant difference

If p value > alpha level Fail to reject the null hypothesis and conclude there is not a significant difference.
