Prompt is as follows: Select a piece of important sociological research (e.g. a book or article in a MAJOR sociological journal), perhaps one you have read for another class. Summarize that work’s question, method and conclusions briefly (1 page). What are the theoretical ambitions of the work – what does it try to explain? How does that work echo the questions/concerns asked by the classical theorists we read? How is it informed by similar or different assumptions? Finally, how does the work embody the “sociological imagination” as described by Mills?
I thought of doing it on the research that pertains to the sociology of sport, and using an article in a book by Frey & Eitzen. I can add the book below if you think of doing that as the topic. But if you have a better example of an important sociological research then feel free.
I would focus on using the theoretical frameworks of classical theorists like: Marx, Weber, Durkheim, Freud, and Marcuse
Ive also included a document on how some of these frameworks relate to the sociology of sport. But make sure it all stays relevant to what the reading is talking about. This document is not the structure for the paper, not do you need to include it all. I Just believe it may aid you in writing the paper. its called help document.
