Select a book, movie, or song of your liking that relates to SOCIAL INEQUALITY and STRATIFICATION from the preapproved list posted in our course announcements page.
In the event you would like to use a selection that is not on this list, you must have written approval from me three days before the assignment is due.
From there, using your book/movie/song answer questions 1-8.
As always, proper grammar, spelling, and sentence structure of a collegiate level are expected.
1) What is the APA citation of the movie, book, or song selection? The OWL at Purdue website Link can assist you with proper formatting.
I need to be able to find your selection using APA format information. A link to a website or video is not acceptable. (You shouldn't be using a website or video in the first place.)
2) Using your OWN words, in 15 words or less, summarize your selection. Post your word count.
What is your book/movie/song about? (Not why you picked the book/movie/song.) This must be clear and concise.
3) Name and define a theoretical perspective from the Schaefer text, Sociology Matters, that relates to your media choice. The three major perspectives we have covered are functionalism, conflict, and interactionism.
Review tables 5-1, 6-2, and 7-2 in the text for an overview.
Convince me that you fully understand the theory and how it relates to your media selection. Explain it as if I have no experience in sociology.
4) How is the theoretical perspective you choosereflected in your book/movie/song? Be specific. Your response should be no less than one full paragraph.
5) Name and describe one system of stratificationaddressed in chapter 5 of the Schaefer text, Sociology Matters.
The four types of stratification are: slavery, estates, castes, and social classes.
6) Describe how your chosen form of stratification is reflected in your selection?
Be specific. Your response should be no less than one full paragraph.
7) How is inequality, by either race, ethnicity, or gender, addressed in your book/movie/song selection?
Be specific and use information from chapters 6 and 7 to support your answer. Your response should be no less than one full paragraph.
8) Select one other term from the "key terms" list in chapter five. Clearly define that term. Then, relate that term to your media selection.
