reference page (not included in your page requirement) at the end of your paper. Use ASA formatting. You do not need an abstract or cover page. Topics that must be addressed in your paper: • Section 1: Describe the social problem you choose(drug abuse in sports) using your sociological imagination. Explain how this social problem has affected society. This is a great section to bring in your outside sources. You can use statistics or trends to describe the problem you choose. Make sure that you provide explicit information on how these issues impact society. • Section 2: Describe which theoretical perspective (structural functionalism, conflict theory, or symbolic interactionism) best aligns with this social problem and why. There is no right or wrong answer for this section. However, it is your job to use supporting evidence to demonstrate why the theory you choose makes sense. • Section 3: Discuss how this social problem developed and has changed throughout time. Why did this social problem begin and how has it changed. What are some proposed solutions to the problem? This would also be a good section to incorporate sources. Your paper will be graded on the follow criteria: • Accurately describe the social problem you choose • Accurately describe the theoretical perspective • Ability to apply course material • Logic of your argument • Quality of writing (grammar, integrating sources, spelling, flow)
