Overview
We have now covered information on a variety of different social problems in the United States and globally. To connect this sociological knowledge to timely, real-world events, find a current news article (within the last year or so) that relates to one of the issues you read about this week. Thoroughly read the news article and then craft a response to the questions below. The best responses will be a minimum of 300 words and will incorporate sociological concepts, language, and other information from the reading this week.
1. What is the news story? Briefly summarize the news-worthy event described in the article you chose. Include a citation and/or a link to the article so that I may access it as well.
2. How does the news story connect to our course material this week? Frame the news story using sociological information from one or more of the chapters assigned during Week #3. Be specific.
3. How does the news story connect the course material on inequality we covered during Week #1? Provide additional sociological context to the news story by including information from one or more of the chapters on economic, racial, gender, sexuality, or aging inequality. Be specific.
