For this essay, you will be taking a moral foundations test (link is found below) and then you will be discussing your thoughts on each of the six (6) listed moral foundations of care, fairness, loyalty, authority, purity, and liberty.
Your Focus for This Assignment:
We live in a world in which many of the assumptions of social psychology have been based on social behavior in relatively stable and prosperous societies.
There are many fissures across societies around the globe.
Much of this tension stems from differences in moral foundations. Perhaps a better understanding of our own morality will help us understand and communicate with others.
At the very least, this should make for an interesting paper that our Teaching Assistants will enjoy reading!
Introduction to the test:
Social scientists such as Ravi Iyer and Jonathan Haidt argue that there are substantial variations in human morality and that these differences influence not just a person's decision making and reasoning processes but also their political outlook. In recent years, researchers and scholars from all over the world have converged on the framework on Moral Foundations Theory in an attempt to explain these individual differences, as well as to make sense of the many instances of moral outrage and offense that are increasingly seen in public debate. By drawing on findings from their research, this test aims to give you your scores according to the Moral Foundations framework.
This should combine introspective reflection with scholarly reference to the Haidt readings, The Moral Foundations of Politics.
You need to write at least two (2) paragraphs for each of six (6) moral foundations.
Each paragraph needs to contain at least one citation from the Haidt reading. This is your time to shine. Feel free to write more if you like, as long as it is thoughtful, organized, and not rambling.
Assignment Instructions
You will take the Moral Foundations Test at:

Once you receive your results, take a screenshot of your results. (10 Points)
For each of the six (6) moral foundations (listed in the graph with your results after you complete your quiz), discuss whether or not you were surprised by your results?
Why or why not?
Make sure that you are specific with your answer!
Examples of Possible Discussion Points:
You could write about how you felt about the loyalty foundation.
Maybe you are a liberal but scored higher on this than other liberals or vice versa.
You could expound on why this could be.
Or maybe you are a libertarian who scored high on equality.
Or perhaps you do not consider yourself liberal, conservative, or libertarian.
But how do your results compare to those political categories?
Are you closer to some than others?
Or perhaps you can consider how your moral foundations may affect your views on certain social and political issues.
NOTE:
These are all just examples of the different ways that you can answer those questions.
