I strongly recommend using and looking at the full assignment details in addition to using this template which will ensure that you include all the necessary components to the assignment.
Tentative timeline
- Draft survey items and get peer feedback (start in class on 1/28 and complete by section on 1/29)
- Create a full survey for your discussion section (complete a full draft in your discussion section and make updates by 11:59p on 1/29)
- Respond to surveys from the other two discussion sections (complete by class on 2/4)
- NOTE: You are required to reflect on your experience taking the surveys and critique one item for the final Exercise assignment; I suggest you do this when you complete the surveys
- Practice analyzing the data (discussion on 2/5 and class on 2/6)
- Complete assignment by deadline (2/14)

Other Resources
We will talk about elements of this exercise in class. We will add any additional information or resources here.
- Class materials: Please see relevant materials on measuring social concepts with survey questions (see: Unit 3: Measurement and Sampling) and survey research (see: Unit 4: Experiments and Surveys), especially supplemental materials for both weeks.
- Example analyses from class: I will provide examples of quantitative analyses in class, including an example using class survey data that I hope is a useful example for your exercises.
- I created a "Cross-tab Calculator" spreadsheet to help you create a simple cross-tabulation table and test statistical significance. I will demonstrate this in class. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Jyj0WKyZJrz4hh6pffu76XXFQqooxInkxAyzE2YNBEg/edit?usp=sharingLinks to an external site.
- Remember that you can use more sophisticated tools if you wish, but this can help you create a sufficient simple analysis like in my class example.
