Hi again.
For this assignment, we have a Zoom call meeting with our professor. For the consultation, we need to answer these two questions. I've already written my answers (so you can use them as a guide).
Questions:
- Explain your interests and strengths in the program and identify courses and topics that interest you most. Which parts of your experience do you want to have achieved by the end of the program?
- Finally, discuss your career and further graduate school aspirations as you begin thinking about post-graduation plans. What are specific actions you can take during the program to meet your long-term goals?
My answers:
1. My main interest in the program is understanding how sociological theories and frameworks apply to real-world issues, particularly in social work and mental health. I am especially drawn to courses that explore social inequalities, mental health policy, and the intersection of sociology and clinical practice. My strength lies in my ability to critically analyze social structures and identify how they contribute to systemic issues. My background in the Army has also strengthened my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, which are valuable assets in my academic and professional pursuits.
The topics that interest me most include social justice, mental health, trauma-informed care, and the application of sociological research to improve community outcomes. By the end of the program, I hope to have gained more profound insights into how to address mental health disparities, particularly among military personnel and marginalized populations. I also want to develop more substantial research and clinical skills that will prepare me for a career in clinical social work.
2. My long-term career goal is to become a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) working with military personnel and veterans. I plan to apply my sociological background to address mental health challenges, such as PTSD and adjustment disorders, while also advocating for policy changes that improve mental health care access.
To meet this goal, I plan to seek internship opportunities in clinical settings, particularly those that serve military communities. I also intend to network with professionals in the field and participate in research projects focused on mental health and social work. Gaining practical experience through fieldwork and building a strong professional network will be crucial steps in preparing for my post-graduation career.
