Sociology Question

Overview

RESEARCH PAPER TOPIC: is observing immigrant workings meeting outside of the Home Depot in the Wilshire/Union Home Depot in Los Angeles. Observing the dynamics of the workers/laborers who are meeting outside Home Depot waiting to get picked up by foremans to take them to jobsites to make money. Me and a classmate are observing them over a period of a couple of days a week to see if they are competing for jobs and how they treat eachotheer in this survival and attrition to get on the truck to get work. Are they rude and back stabbing or are they supportive? How do the ones that get left act and how do they positioned themselves for the next day pick up? Los Angeles is a city that pulsates with immigrant life. as such, you are expected to write a research paper based on direct observation in Los Angeles. You will need to conduct observations at least twice a week for four weeks to grasp the theme well. You may also speak with the people in your observed spaces to better understand how they perceive their environment. Then you will research your topic in the literatures that you write a paper on your observations and informed by the literature on the topic. This is how the production of scientific inquiry works. You will compare your observations with the literature on the topic, noting similarities and discrepencie3s. Are your observations reflected in the literature on the topic you selected? Why? Why not? Do your observations contribute something new, a new understanding of the topic you selected? Do your observations corroborate your knowledge of the topic? This research project is an integral part to your learning experience!! This paper must follow these guidelines: Your name, date, in12 font, Times New Roman, page number, and one inch margins. A clear thesis statement explaining your argument and what will be covered in your paper. Analysis supported by evidence (e.g., readings from the course, materials covered in class, previously approved courses). A list of sources is required, if you use books and or resources not assigned, you must stay consistent with your chosen style (Chicago is preferred-the three assigned books follow this style, so you have those as model to consult). --You will have an introduction of 1-2 pages that sets the context for the theme of the paper, where you will state the question/issue you are researching and briefly mention where you conducted the observations and what they tell you about the topic you are researching! Then you move to the Literature Review---The literature review should not list works and describe each: instead, I want to see a main point/idea followed by one or more references in parentheses. Next you will include about an half page describing where you conducted the research, with whom, whether you interviewed anyone, what days you conducted the research, etc.. This section normally goes under "Data and Methods" in published article, you must explain how you collected the data (your observation) for others to be able to assess the soundness of your work. For the body of the paper, you will focus on the topic that will allow you to analyze your field observations. You will include as much detail as possible. You will also analyze these observations by connecting them to readings from the class, but also those you identify through library searches outside of class. This is the main body of the paper, it should be several pages long. Lastly, you will have a discussion and or conclusion section that brings it all together to answer your question in the introduction. This will be about one page! You will have a list of references with all works cited in the paper, including class materials and additional resources. Minumum of 7-9 sources in the literature review. The paper Should be about 2,500 words of text, not including tables, figures, references and the like. Including these other components, the paper will be longer.
