Overview
Thus far we have focused quite a bit on marriages and family structure and the role they play in our society. We know that the "parents" in a family are not always legally married. Now let's think about why individuals choose to cohabitate instead of getting married. Cohabitation is on the rise and along with it comes an increase in the number of children who live in two-parent homes with parents who aren't legally married. Are we destined to become a nation of cohabitating couples or will marriage always be the most desirable union in our society?
In 3-5 paragraphs of written text, do you think that children who have parents who cohabitate have the same advantages as children who live in a home where the parents are legally married? Why or why not?
