Discussion Topic: 3.7 American Slavery (DISCUSSION)3.7 American Slavery (DISCUSSION)

In 4 paragraphs, answer the following questions:

1) How were you taught regarding slavery in the United States? Did it change over time? How did the teaching of slavery advance your understanding of "America" as a country? Did you believe the material and lecture in this module expand your understanding?

2) Pick either The Slave Narratives, or the 1619 Podcast and write what you learned, citing specific examples. How did it help expand your understanding of liberty, freedom, bondage, etc. (THIS SHOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF YOUR DISCUSSION). If you do not cite specific examples from the Slave Narratives or the 1619 Project, you will not receive full credit.

Please respond to one students post who chose the same topic asked in question number two.

3.1 American Slavery: Introduction (READ)[Image unavailable: Alternative formats]

Welcome to Module 3, a module where you will learn and discuss the American Slave Trade, American Slavery, and the "American "Paradox." You will do this by watching a video regarding the Atlantic Slave Trade and Middle Passage, and the grueling conditions capture and enslavement entailed. Then, you will watch the HBO Documentary the Slave Narratives, which is a reading of interviews done with people who were born into slavery, were emancipated, and then lived in the country that once enslaved them. After, you will read a speech by Frederick Douglas that discusses his views on what some call the "American Paradox." Lastly, you will listen to a Podcast from the NYT 1619 Project, and then breakdown resistance to it via a discussion. Lastly, a Quiz will end module 3.

Note: There is no "what to look for" in this module. Because of that, you will have two opportunities to take the quiz, with the higher score being kept. Good Luck!.
