Dasia Davis:
To be an effective motivator in a leadership role, there are several qualities and skills that you can draw upon to nurture and motivate individuals to work together towards accomplishing common goals. Empathy is one of the most important qualities. Leaders with empathy truly put themselves into the shoes of those they are working with to understand their needs, challenges, and feelings. This understanding gives a leader the ability to relate to their team members. This relationship creates trust, which must be established in order for motivation to exist. When people feel appreciated and supported, they will want to become actively involved and committed to the ultimate goal of the team. In addition to being an empathic leader, you must have good communication capabilities. Strong motivators can appropriately and effectively communicate what they expect, provide useful feedback, and celebrate accomplishments in a way that motivates and empowers the team.
Vision is another key competency. Teams with a leader who communicates a compelling vision create meaning and clarity for the team. Motivation grows when team members have the knowledge that what they are doing is meaningful. Along with vision, the team members need to respect their leader and whom they receive respect from. When a leader’s use of words matches their actions, leads to the team members feeling trust and respect, and likely the desire to follow their leader. When there is a strong sense of integrity, individuals may feel more credible that the team will be motivated. Finally, an effective motivator has the leadership individual or the motive. Change and struggles are a given, but a frequently flexible leader who promotes a positive outlook inspires teams to try to perform their best.
In conclusion, an effective motivator demonstrates empathy, effectively communicates, shares a vision, and integrity, and is an adaptive leader. The motivation of a group produces a healthy work environment and motivation centered around the individuals is not about pushing in any struggle. It is more providing a supportive environment where the individual finds the motivation. Rather, it is through the qualities of motivating leaders that people become successfully motivated to make progress. Motivation is to provide and demonstrate ways in which an individual will move in relation to the degree of motivational strategies. It always stems from the individuals on the team who want to move on their own accord.
