ASSIGNMENT:
This Research Paper is intended to assess students’ understanding and application of a selected theory on deviance and social control derived from one of the chapters dealt with in this course. This exercise is important in that conducting deviance research requires the scholar to employ a theoretical perspective as a heuristic device to explain research findings. To complete this deviance research paper, you must:
- Identify, research, and clearly describe an issue that has implications for deviance and social control behavior that is caused and or exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic such as – political leaders versus scientists; Covid-19 Vaccine avoidance, wearing or not wearing masks, social distancing, coronavirus policies of state and local governments; coronavirus and work, impact of the coronavirus on prisons and prisoners or elderly in nursing homes, impact of coronavirus on students on high school or college students – 50 points
- Select and clearly explain from the course readings a deviance and social control theory (e.g., labeling theory, conflict theory, functionalist theory, anomie theory, control theory, learning theory) and demonstrate your effective understanding of it by applying it to your selected coronavirus pandemic behavior issue – 40 points.
- Identify and briefly describe another deviance theory or construct you could have chosen instead to explain your coronavirus pandemic topic. Why you preferred and selected the one you did? – 10 points.
- Ensure you have a cover page for your assignment which includes your name, the name of the course – SOCI 3600: Deviance Fall 2022, name of your instructor – Prof. George K. Danns PhD. Give your paper a title for example: Labeling Theory of Deviance and Behaviors Related to Wearing a Mask during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
- Organize your paper into identifiable sections with highlighted headings as follows: 1. Deviance Research Topic. 2. Application of a Theory of Deviance. 3. Alternative Deviance Theory. 4. Conclusion. 5. List of References – must be a minimum of 10 sources including the textbook.
- Appendix which may include relevant pictures of people events, etc.
- The DCPR must be typewritten, double-spaced and not less than six and no more than eight pages. The lists of references and appendices are not counted in the eight pages.
