Overview
I have to write a final research essay for urban sociology, This is the abstract i wrote: This paper examines how the development of SoFi Stadium has affected rent prices and displacement pressures for long-time residents in Inglewood. Although the stadium is often described as an economic success, its construction coincided with noticeable increases in housing costs that have made it harder for many residents to remain in their homes. The main question guiding this essay is: How has the development of SoFi Stadium affected rents and housing stability in Inglewood? I argue that the stadium contributed to rising rents by increasing nearby land values, attracting real estate investors, and shaping expectations among landlords, developers, and city officials that the area was becoming a more desirable and profitable place to live. These expectations encouraged landlords to raise rents, renovate units, or convert properties for higher-income tenants.
Using news articles, policy reports, and census data, the paper outlines how housing costs shifted during and after stadium construction. To help explain why these changes occurred, I draw on course readings such as Logan and Molotch’s growth machine theory, which highlights the role of city officials, major developers, and private investors in driving urban redevelopment, and Dreier and Swanstrom’s work on regional housing inequality. The paper is organized into three sections: background on the stadium project, evidence of rising rents, and a theoretical discussion of the actors and forces behind these changes.
I need 4 outside sources and 4 readings from the course (listed in the guidelines), I have attached the 4 readings from the course. These are the specific pages of the texts I attached (readings from the course) you can use:
