ASSIGNMENT:
This political sociology course will focus a lot on current events which can be found in the news articles and videos from a wide variety of reputable news media listed below. Students are therefore required to develop a Political Sociology Current Affairs Journal (CAJ). The CAJ is aimed at enabling students to both give studied attention to selected current affairs issues and to determine the political and social dimensions of these. The aim is to have you become acquainted with a variety of media sources other than those with which you are accustomed. For this reason, I have excluded CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. Students must:
These issues could be local, that is from your town or city; a state of Georgia or other state issue; a nationwide issue; or an international or global issue.
1. Each CAJ entry must fully describe the event using no less than two media sources from the list provided below. Select media sources that have varying or contrasting coverage of the same issue. You are not allowed to use the same media source more than once in your six entries. You may select other creditable media sources but clear these with me first. 2. Identify the political and social dimensions of the selected issue. 3. Comment on why you think that the media sources you have selected covered the current affairs events differently. This is your journal, so you are free to select each topic. Examples of possible topics are - the Opioid Epidemic, 2025 Government Shutdown, Police Reform, ICE Immigration Enforcement, Black Lives Matter, White Supremacist
