Sociology Question

Overview

Analytical Paper Guidelines

Students are responsible for writing an analytical paper that expands the material from one of the weeks’ readings. You can apply, expand, or

challenge the concepts or theories of the class readings by using a new empirical case (e.g., migration, asylum, refugee policy, or population) or

read more on the same topic and population to deepen your understanding. Students must cite five new references (and at least three must be

academic articles or books). The other references can be organizational reports (e.g., UNHCR, IOM), data from national censuses, lengthy news

reports, or government archives. Finally, students are required to present your project to the class.

Learning Objectives

The assignment will help you become familiar with the social science research process. It will also help you understand, analyze, and evaluate the

concepts and theories on the factors that determine international human mobility and state responses to human mobility. Moreover, you learn to

synthesize and assess the theories and concepts featured in the class readings, which will prepare you for the mid-term and final exams.

(1)Write Analytical Paper (graded)

Written papers should be double-spaced, 12-point New Times Roman, and between 5-6 pages long. Do not use quotes; write the author’s

arguments in your own words and cite your references. Write your name on the MS Word document and write “analytical paper” in the email’s

subject line.

Grade: 60 points (please see grading rubric for analytical paper below).
