Vanessa Jones’ Discussion Post:
I believe immigration is a current problem now because of several reasons. The first reason I believe is because of bigotry. Our current administration do not think they are good enough to be here. They are called names by our current President. He address them as rapists and murderers. In the video of crime vs the increase of immigrants, it is documented the increase of immigration does not increase the crime rate; nationwide study by the Marshall Project show cities with an increase of 118% immigrants had a 36% decrease in crime. Secondly, there are myths that immigrants take jobs away from the US citizens. However, in reality the immigrants do jobs that the US citizens will not do. This was documented when immigrants were taken out of the agricultural fields. The farmers lost harvest that was not gathered to take to the market produce rotten away because there were no immigrants to work to gather the harvest and consumers paid a higher price for produce because of the lack of it in the markets. Farmers lost thousands of dollars. Also as documented in our class video, the Koreans are willing to work in meat packing companies where US citizens are not willing to work. Immigrants are usually looking for a better life when they migrate to the U.S. They are usually escaping countries in fear for their lives from gang members that control most of their country. This country was built by many immigrants. If they are here for a better life and to make our country a better place. Why shouldn't they be accepted.
