Overview
This week’s discussion has 5 parts:
1. How did settlers use reproductive control to control of Native American lives? (~150 words) (3/4 point)
- How did this work?
- Name and succinctly describe at least three examples.
2. In about 200 words, describe three ways in which control of one's body, thus one's self/culture/life, can be/has been resisted. (1 point)
- One must be Cecelia Fire Thunder's establishment of a clinic.
- One must be an example Lorentzen describes in 'I Know My Own Body': Power and Resistance in Women's Experiences of Medical Interactions.
- One must be an example you choose from current events in US culture.
3. Post either a news article or a short video (such as from YouTube) illustrating, explaining, and/or analyzing the act of resistance you chose from current events in US culture. (1/2 point)
- In one paragaph of about 100 words, explain what the example is about, and how it illustrates resistance of control of one's body, as well as resistance of broader control of one's life/culture/perspective.
4. What is an interesting question, either on this topic, or linking this topic with another in our class, to guide discussion in this week's forum? (1/4 point)
Your initial post should be about 450 words long. 5. After finishing with your own post, also post a comment on at least two of the posts of your classmates. You are welcome to post even more than 2 comments! Thoughtful, positive, questioning, and educational comments, which help to develop the group conversation, can both help others engage the subject more deeply AND improve your own grade! (1/4 point for each comment=total 1/2 point)
Make sure you've properly cited, including page numbers, paragraph numbers, and/or time stamps for all in-text citations.
