Let's start down the road of our own study by turning concepts into indicators. Here's a concept for you: succeeding in college. Take this concept, and find two different ways that you could measure it. Then, ask a question for each indicator: one open-ended question and one closed-ended question.
For example: My first indicator would be grade point average, so the question would ask "In which of the following ranges is your current GPA? A) 0.0-2.0 B) 2.1-2.9 C) 3.0-3.5 D) 3.6-4.0" My other way of thinking about it would be whether someone has post-college plans lined up, so the question would be "what are your plans for after you graduate college?"
Pick your own indicators, and don't re-use the ones from the examples. Explain why you think those indicators are important.

Tattoos are an increasingly popular form of personal expression, especially for younger people. Let’s say you want to study who has tattoos and the factors that led to their decision to get one. For your response post, describe which sampling technique would you use to gather data and why. How would you describe your population? Where would you go to collect your sample? Which of the techniques outlined in the lecture would you use?
