Going to Prison
Is the current United States prison system an effective method to re-socialize individuals into being upstanding members of society? Many, including the author of your textbook, would argue no due to high recidivism rates. In fact, many feel that one simply learns how to survive in prison and chooses to remain in this system. Therefore, for this option, students will need to provide a side-by-side investigation of the United States prison system against another country. Students can select whatever country they would like. Things to consider in your investigation:
Facilities
Access to Education
Sentence and Parole Length
Recidivism rates
