Overview
Exam 3 Part 2 is a take-home exam that focuses on fractional factorial DOE. Note that you are expected to solve these problems in Minitab including model evaluation and post-hoc analysis.
Complete the following problem in Montgomery (10th ed.) using Minitab:
- Problem 8.23
- In addition to answering Parts A- C in this problem, also address the following questions for each of the three parts:
- Evaluate the model validity;
- Evaluate the findings of the model (significant factors, optimal conditions, etc.);
- Identify an important aliased relationships that may need to be further investigated;
- Evaluate the model reliability (power).
- Finally, include a brief summary that (at a minimum): 1) identifies and describes the strategy that the experiment is following and 2) discusses the potential benefits and challenges of using this approach.
Submit 1) a Technical Report that summarizes your solution/response to all parts of each question and 2) your Minitab file (with organized/labeled output).
--> Your technical report should follow standard APA formatting, be single-spaced, and no longer than 2 pages. Note that you can include images where necessary to support your response, but you do not have to include all charts/graphs/output (which will be contained in your Minitab output file).
This is the Problem in the Montgomery textbook : 8.23. An industrial engineer is conducting an experiment
using a Monte Carlo simulation model of an inventory system.
The independent variables in her model are the order quantity
(A), the reorder point (B), the setup cost (C), the backorder
cost (D), and the carrying cost rate (E). The response variable
is average annual cost. To conserve computer time, she
decides to investigate these factors using a 252 design with III
I ABD and I BCE. The results she obtains are de 95, ae134, b158, abd190, cd92, ac187, bce 155, and abcde 185.
(a) Verify that the treatment combinations given are cor- rect. Estimate the effects, assuming three-factor and higher interactions are negligible.
(b) Suppose that a second fraction is added to the first, for example, ade136, e93, ab187, bd153,
acd139, c99, abce191, and bcde150. How was this second fraction obtained? Add this data to the original fraction, and estimate the effects.
(C) Suppose that the fraction abc 189, ce 96, bcd 154,acde135,abe193,bde152,ad137,and (1) 98 was run. How was this fraction obtained? Add this data to the original fraction and estimate the effects.
