MNGT 714 Research Methods

Overview

I am a PhD student. I have a Research Methods midterm that I need help with. There are 10 questions that have to be answered from a perspective that you understand the material in your own words. Please give an explanation with an example. I have uploaded the chapters 1- 6 from the book Research Methods and chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 from quantitative research. When asked to provide an example in the questions, it should not be one from the textbook, but rather a fictitious example of your own.

Q1. Explain the fundamental differences between quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. In your response, ensure you:

  • 1)Define quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, highlighting the key characteristics of each approach.
  • 2)Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • 3)Offer insights into how the chosen methodology influences research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Q2. Assume that you do research regarding the quantitative aptitude of JSU students. Data can be collected by cross-sectional study and three longitudinal approaches. Provide an example of how to collect data for each approach. 1) cross-sectional 2) trend 3) cohort 4) panel studies. Q3. How would you distinguish causal-comparative research from correlational research? Present an example (a set of independent and dependent variables) that can be designed in both ways. Explanation should focus on the difference in terms of the measurement types of independent and dependent variables. Q4. How would you distinguish correlational research from experimental design? Your answer should include an example (a set of independent and dependent variables), demonstrating how each design can be applied. Q5. In the context of experimental research 1) Define internal validity. 2) Identify and explain the 12 threats to internal validity of experimental research (i.e. extraneous variables). 3) Select three of them and provide an example. Also discuss how to minimize or control for the threat. Q6. List and explain potential issues or problems when raw gain score is used to measure an amount of change. Q7. Find appropriate name for the following experimental designs and identify limitation of each, if exists. 1) X O Name: limitation: 2) O X O Name: limitation: 3) R X O R O Name: limitation: 4) R O X O R O O R X O R O Name: limitation: 5) Which one of the above four is the most powerful type of experimental design?
