Overview
A. Written Presentation
Generate a written report that consists of all sections of an empirical research manuscript. The report should be free of statistical jargon, uncluttered, visually appealing, and clearly communicate key points. Care should be taken that the report is clearly written in excellent grammar and well organized. This should be first generated in part 1 and updated in parts 2 &3.
PART3: Inferential Statistics :
are associated with lead exposure; however, these symptoms are also associated with other environmental, behavioral and health problems. Use the chi-square test to test whether each of these four symptoms is related to whether children had blood lead levels less than 40 µg/100mlor blood lead levels between 40 to 68µg/100ml.
a. State the hypotheses for each of the 4 comparisons.
b. State your decision rule.
c. Report the test statistics, p-values, and odds ratios for each of the 4 comparisons.
d. Interpret the results and state your conclusions.
5. For each of the standard IQ measures, evaluate whether there is a statistically significant linear relationship withblood lead levels in 1972.
a. Using a simple scatter chart, plot 1972 blood lead level (X) against IQ (Y). Create separate plots for the IQ variables.
b. Visually evaluate the assumptions of linearity and homogeneity of variance. Assess whether any outliers are present.
c. Is there a statistically significant linear relationship between blood lead level and each of the IQ measures? State your hypotheses and p-value.
d. Interpret the results, including an explanation of the slopes and y-intercepts for each regression equation and R2 values
e. State your conclusions
6. Are the average blood lead levels different between children based on the radius (miles) of the smelter where they live in 1972 as well as in 1973?
a. State the hypotheses.
b. Construct mean plots of blood lead levels with respect to the residential areas for 1972 and for 1973 data.
c. Using the plots in b). above (visually) state your conclusion
d. Report the test statistics, p-values of the test.
e. Perform post hoc analyses (pairwise comparisons) and report 95% pairwise CI’s for the difference between mean blood lead levels of children based on the miles near the smelter where they lived during their first 2 years in 1972, and in 1973.
f. Interpret the results.
g. State your conclusions.
