abs research proposal

Use Topic From Literature Review(my busting) see attach ,project 1 goes into the research proposal paper where it say week 2.

read all the instruction

Materials are provided for three different projects inspired by research found in the literature. For the research proposal, use the same article and materials that you based your literature review on.

There are pre-built materials for three experiments. There are possible variations of design, but choose one of the following options. You may not create your own topic or materials without permission from and coordination with the instructor.

Retraction [PDF]: Use a news article and a retraction to a news article on a bank robbery with a questionnaire to measure responses.

Myth Busting [PDF]: Use a fact sheet to debunk the myth that humans use only 10 percent of their brain with a questionnaire to measure responses.

  • False Balance [PDF]: Use two articles, one on the lack of connection between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder and the other on the connection, with a questionnaire to measure responses.

Preparation

  • Be sure that you have completed the Week 4 interactive learning module, Design Your Study, and have taken notes on methods that you will use to sample your participants and collect and analyze your data.

Design Scenarios: The following information will help to guide you as you begin to design your data collection methods:

  • Retraction: The ONLY design you can use for this experiment is posttest, and a control group should be included. Problem: The Salkind textbook states that a posttest-only design is a true experiment. I want to emphasize this is ONLY true when the sample is randomly assigned from a normally distributed population (a nearly impossible task and impossible in this course). That means the design is pre-experimental at best and that without a control group, it is essentially useless.

Myth busting: This design REQUIRES your participants to believe the myth for the experiment to work. If they do not, there is no use in providing the myth-busting factsheet. You cannot break a myth someone does not believe in the ?rst place.

False balance: This choice REQUIRES a pretest, posttest design. You must ?rst establish the participant’s beliefs before administering any of the materials. False balance is essentially testing the impact of inoculation (consensus information) on beliefs. The real questions being tested are:

Does the inoculation reinforce beliefs that vaccines do not cause autism spectrum disorder? (Stronger beliefs in the posttest.)

  • Does the consensus information change beliefs in those who start out believing vaccines cause autism spectrum disorder? (This is a shift from absolutely yes to absolutely no).

These are all nominal- or ordinal-level variables. Interval-level analysis cannot be done on the nominal variables at all or on the ordinal variable unless it is converted to a Likert-type scale—not just a numbered list. If this conversion is done, it must be explained in the procedures after data collection and before analysis.

  • If you have not done so yet, revise your literature review based on any instructor feedback you received.

Instructions

In Week 5, you will start to conduct your research study. We conduct research studies to expand our knowledge on how human behavior in the world is evolving. To conduct an effective study, we must understand theories related to our current environment and society.

  • The first step, however, is to create a research proposal that provides a detailed plan for your experiment. For this assignment, write your research proposal. Be sure to use the Research Proposal [DOCX] template, as it provides context and wording that you should use to help you clearly explain your main points. By using the template, you will cover all of the points below:

Complete the IRB Application portion of the Research Proposal template.

  • Insert your revised literature review in the Literature Review section in the template.

State your hypothesis for your study.

  • Operationally define the variables that you are using in your study.

Describe the method you will use to sample your participants and collect data.

Use your notes from the media piece to guide your sampling method selection.

  • Note: You will use your classmates as participants for this project.
  • Choose the measurement that matches your study.

Review the template for suggested language.

Discuss how the measurement increases the reliability and validity of the study.

  • Explain your procedure based on the research design you chose.
  • Include commentary on the sociocultural considerations that have an effect on the study outcomes and how you can control for them.

Discuss factors related to the overall validity of the study.

Discuss sociocultural factors that could play a role in study outcomes.

Identify the statistical test you'll use to analyze your data and explain why you picked it.

Remember to consult the scoring rubric to make sure you cover all that will be assessed.
