Problem: A scientist is studying the frequency and culture of running long distances in major metropolitan cities. The scientist is interested in seeing if cities that hold major marathon events are influencing people who live in that city to run more. The scientist collects two random samples of 100 people from the two cities, one that hosts major marathon events, and the second one does not. Each person surveyed was asked how often they run and what distances they felt comfortable running each week. At the 5% level of significance, does the data support the claim that the mean distances run in the cities where major marathon events are held are higher than those in the city which does not host a major marathon event?
