- Identify the columns with the variable COMBFE which represents combined fuel efficiency in miles per gallon.
Obtain a random sample of 40 vehicles
Use the "Random Sampling" function in the Data Analysis Toolpak to take a random sample of 40 vehicles from the COMBFE column (combined fuel efficiency).
Pro Tip! - Copy and paste the COMBFE column to its own worksheet before taking the random sample so it is easier to keep track of.
Calculate a 90% Confidence Interval
- Calculate the sample mean of your random sample of vehicles.
- Use your sampled mean and the population standard deviation σ= 9.7 mpg to calculate the 90% confidence interval for μ. See lesson 18.
- Save and show your work for your post.
Ways to show your work:
- Use the math formula button in Canvas.
- Take a screenshot of your excel workbook. Only the work part not the entire screen.
- Take a screenshot of handwritten work on a tablet.
- Neatly hand-write your formulas on paper take a picture with your phone and upload the image within your post. Image needs to .jpeg. (please no words/sentences)
Interpret your Interval
Use the template for interpreting your interval. Be sure to include the level of confidence, your point and interval estimates, and context about the variable.
Template for Describing a Confidence Interval The {level of confidence} confidence interval estimates the {population parameter with context} to be between {lower bound with units} and {upper bound with units} , with a point estimate of {point estimate with units} .
