Bivariate graphs, bivariate analysis of interval-ratio variables, and multivariate analysis using SPSS

Hi there,

I hope you’re doing well! You did such a great job helping me with the previous assignment, so I’m reaching out again for some guidance on Assignment 3. Just to give you a refresher, I’m taking COMS 3001: Quantitative Communications, where we apply statistical analysis using SPSS to explore communication studies through a quantitative lens.

Assignment Overview

This assignment is broken into four parts, and it’s crucial to follow the guidelines closely:

  1. Part 1 (4 points):
    • Generate bivariate graphs:
      • Clustered bar chart and paneled pie chart for:
        • Independent variable: Sex (x001)
        • Dependent variables: Family important in life (a001) and Friends important in life (a002)
      • Parallel box plot for:
        • Independent variable: Education level (recoded) (x025r)
        • Dependent variable: Age (x003)
    • I need to submit the graphs along with brief comments on each.
  2. Part 2 (6 points):
    • Conduct a conditional analysis with:
      • Independent variable: Country/regions Recoded (s003ar)
      • Dependent variables: Friends important in life (a002) and Leisure time important in life (a003)
      • Control variable: Sex (x001)
    • I’ll need to include all contingency tables, tests of relationship (significance), and measures of association in a Word document, filling out tables similar to the provided model and adding comments.
  3. Part 3 (4 points):
    • Perform a T-test to analyze:
      • Independent variables: Sex (x001) and Had formal education (x024)
      • Dependent variable: Number of people in household of 18+ (x014)
    • I’ll need to submit the T-test results and brief comments on what they indicate.
  4. Part 4 (6 points):
    • Conduct a linear regression analysis for:
      • Independent variable: Education level (recoded) (x025r)
      • Dependent variable: Number of people in household of 18+ (x014)
    • I’ll need to submit the regression results and comment on the main elements of the test, as discussed in class.

Important Notes

  • No AI or Plagiarism: The assignment must be completed without the use of AI tools, and everything needs to be original.
  • I’ll attach all class lectures and readings, as well as a zip file containing the SPSS dataset, to ensure you have all the necessary resources.

Tips from THE Prof.

helpful tips for completing Assignment 3:

  1. For the T-test, make sure to match the codes for the independent variable under "Define Groups" with the coding in the dataset. For example, if Sex is coded as 1 and 2, you must enter 1 and 2 in the "Define Groups." Different variables might have different coding, so always double-check.
  2. Regarding the correlation table, the strength of the correlation is in the "Pearson Correlation" row, and significance is shown below. Sometimes, significance is also indicated with stars (e.g., 95% or 99% confidence levels), as seen in our PowerPoint slides. Always use the p-value to confirm the level of confidence.
