Short Paper #5: Protocol
Description:
Throughout this quarter you will be working towards a final, and final draft of the quantitative research proposal. These short paper assignments break this final project into smaller bit size pieces. They also provide an opportunity to receive feedback from the professor and colleagues. It is expected that your short paper ideas will evolve over the quarter and that the feedback you receive will help strengthen your overall final proposal.
For this short paper you will develop a 1-2 page summary of your study protocol section of your final proposal. This section should mirror a procedures section of a published article. Each study will vary greatly in the length and content of this section. We will discuss in class what criteria is applicable to your study. But in must cases the protocol section includes the following:
- The process of interacting with participants (from first contact to the conclusion of participation)
- The overall team plan and procedures for collecting and managing data (excluding the actual statistical analysis, see short paper #6 for this information)
- Any unique management aspects of your study that require explicit discussion for a reader to understand the added strengths of limitations of this issue in your study
