Overview
- Independent Project:This is an Independent Project and as such is to be done individually by each student.
- Data Set:Use StatCrunch to complete the following 5 analyses, and for each of the 5 analyses choose any appropriate variable(s) from those in the data set (Excel spreadsheet) provided under Week 4 on the course website.Note that each column in the spreadsheet is a separate variable and the name of the variable is at the top.If you want more information about any of the variables, at the bottom of the spreadsheet, select the second tab, “Code Key.”
- Sample Data:These are sample data, so for each variable you select, use ALL the data provided.
- Entering Answers:Enter your answers for each part on this document immediately following that part (e.g., after 1.a., 1.b, etc.) and submit this entire document (including the instructions for each analysis).
- Font Color:While putting your answers in a different color font is helpful, please DO NOT use red font since this is the color used to provide feedback on your answers.
- Word Doc:Submit as a Word document under Week 4 (where you found it).
- Grading:The scoring system is based on a total of 100 points = 100%, thus a score of 100% means you would receive the full 20 points on this assignment.
- Frequency distribution of a variable and bar graph of the same variable
- Descriptive statistics of a continuous variable: mean, median, mode, skewness, kurtosis, standard deviation
- Cross tabulation (contingency table) of two variables
- Comparison of the effect of an independent variable (with three or more groups) on a single continuous variable
- Scatter plot of two continuous variables and a comprehensive, correlation analysis (i.e., including r, r2 and the statistical significance of r) between those two variables.NOTE:Do not use height and weight as your two variables as these were used as an example in the course instruction.
- Explain why you chose the variable you selected relative to its level of measurement, including why it is appropriate for use in both a frequency distribution and a bar graph.[5 points]
- Show the frequency distribution and bar graph, from StatCrunch or other software.[10 points]
- Write a paragraph describing/interpreting the specific results of your bar graph and each column of the frequency distribution.Your explanation should use the technical language in the course, but it should also show that you understand these terms. [5 points]
