Mki: Use SPSS to analyse data

Overview

The Maryville Community College is worried that the below average math test scores of the students will affect the school's upcoming accreditation review. As such, this semester they have implemented a new teaching strategy in the respective math classes. The school community is interested in finding out if a) the new teaching strategy is effective, b) do students gender and race affect Math scores, and c) do study time, and distance from campus influence Math scores. To do this the school creates a sample of 30 cases from a population of 1000 students.

As a researcher, you are required to provide a descriptive analysis of the research based on the following:

1 Create appropriate figure, tables showing the percentage distribution for Race, Gender and study time. If you are using SPSS the histogram should include the normal curve. If you are using EXCEL, provide evidence that the distribution is normal or approximately normal.

2 The correlation matric for Study time, distance to campus and Math Final Exam and report on the strength of the respective associations (be sure to include the correlation matrix table).

3 Create appropriate research questions and hypotheses.

4 After calculating the above, write up the findings in a report. Make sure to include properly labeled tables or graphs. The report MUST be in APA format.

Coding:

Race:

White = 1, Asian American = 2, Hispanics = 3, Black = 4

Gender

Male = 1, Female = 2

Remember question 1 is similar to the first Exam.

When submitting your answer make sure to submit a) for SPSS, the syntax or b) for EXCEL screenshots of you using the data analysis tool to run the respective test (a screenshot before you press ok).
