Critical Thinking: Lie Detection
After reviewing reviewing the information about polygraphs (see below), answer the following questions:
· Imagine that, when taking a lie detector (polygraph) test, a person accused of theft is asked: “Did you take something without paying for it?” If, when answering “No,” they exhibit elevated arousal, would this confirm that they are lying? Explain.
· How might polygraph examiners maximize the accuracy of their results?
