Lord of Dance Essay

Overview

this is the final project which relates to the other assignments that I did earlier. (ill upload it here for you)

Project Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will create a mock-mini exhibition related to the work of art you have been working on in this class for your first and second papers (for most of you, the work you selected in our first Meeting in Pictures assignment).   You will need to select four works or art that relate to your chosen work of art and then organize your selections into a mock mini-art exhibition. By "mock" that means you will place your chosen works into powerpoint, word or another platform in a form that is a mock-up for a museum exhibition. Below is my first Meeting in Pictures assignment

?

N)ame of Art: Painting of a Dog and Puppies.

Name of Museum: National Museum of Korea

Location: 137 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, 04383, Republic of Korea

This is a painting that can be found in the National Museum of Korea. The name of this painting is very cute and simple, it is called Painting of a Dog and Puppies. It was made by Yi Am (1499-?) and portrays the warm atmosphere surrounding a dog and her puppies. The main thing that caught my attention of this painting was its outlook. I can feel the warm side of the happiness in this painting. It looks like a mom taking care of her kid, and this reminds me of the dog I have in my hometown. This might be just a simple art for everyone, but I think the story behind this painting is very warm-hearted. It also reminds me to think from the perspectives of animals. Not only do humans have a life, but also animals have their own sides stories to live their life. I also love the color of this art. It is very simple and clean. Overall, this painting gave me a very warm and touching feeling. I love animals, so this really caught my attention.

above was I did earlier for my assignment and below will be the instructions that you should follow

This project consists of 2 parts.

Writing four museum captions of 100 to 200 words for each of your chosen works of art. Your captions must be composed in complete sentences.

Exhibition Statement: 500-1000 words

Step 1: Select Four Works of Art

You may wish to choose a work of art relate to your first meeting in pictures assignment or works of art you found particularly interesting in our class.  For example, an artist might have done several versions of the same subject, or created works of asian art--south asian, southeast asian, or east asian.  Consider creating a file where you keep works of art you have found as you are working on your current paper assignment.  Ultimately, you may decide the theme of your exhibition first and then find works of art that support it second. But remember, the art work you have been writing about in this class must be in the exhibition.

Step 2: Write the Museum Labels

Information labels are those little squares of matte board that are placed next to works of art at museums and galleries. They provide historical or cultural context about the work art next to it. For example...

?

Each of your four images will need an art label (also called a caption).  Each label must contain the below bulleted points, unless the your sources  indicate it is unknown.

The title of the work of art if known, otherwise list untitled if that is what the museum has done. All titles must be in italics.

The date or general time period (for example, during prehistoric times, there are general time periods, such as Neolithic and Paleolithic which may not include a specific date range)

Medium (the materials that are used in order to create the artwork)

Dimensions (size) -- is it small-scale or portable? Or is this a large-scale work and about the size of a human being? Is it monumental, which means that it is many times the size of a human being? What is the difference between large-scale and monumental? Small-scale and monumental?

A few sentences about the function of the work of art or its cultural context. You may also think about how information about the work of art might support the theme of your exhibition and include that or explain how it relates to the theme of the exhibition.

Sample Caption

In this example, first, you note the basic information provided by the museum and you write it into a caption using complete sentences. For example, I have written the below caption in sentences:

The Ritual vessel in the shape of rhinoceros is dated probably between 1100-1050 BCE. It is a ritual object in bronze work from the Shang dynasty. This work is 9 inches in height and width, and is 14 1/2 inches in diameter and is portable. This bronze object is shaped to appear like a rhinoceros and is an example of the luxurious bronze casting of the Shang dynasty in China.

?

Developing your label caption: short and simple

Now that you have provided basic information, you can look for further information about the object. Then write  a few sentences to add a pithy description that you think would be suitable for a visitor at your exhibit.  You should not write more than a few sentences. Remember you do not want to fatigue your museum goer.  Short and simple is key. Below is an award winning museum caption about a Thai sculpture dated sometime between 1775  & 1850.  While you do not need to write as long a caption as the sample below, the tone of caption and approach is an example of one way you could write about the object in your exhibition.

??

Step 3: Exhibition Statement

ONCE YOU HAVE PROPERLY INTRODUCED YOUR FOUR CHOSEN WORKS OF ART, EXPLAIN WHY YOU CHOSE THEM.  EXHIBIT STATEMENTS DISCUSS THE ORIGINAL INSPIRATION FOR THE EXHIBITION, IN THIS CASE YOU MAY WANT TO GO BACK TO YOUR FIRST DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT MEETING IN PICTURESAND REVIEW YOUR FIRST RESPONSES TO THE WORK OF ART THAT YOUR EXHIBITION IS INSPIRED BY OR ORGANIZED AROUND.  REMEMBER BIG AND SMALL EXHIBITIONS ARE OFTEN ORGANIZED AROUND BLOCKBUSTER OR WHIMSICAL THEMES. BUT SOMETIMES MUSEUM GOERS ARE SEEKING KNOWLEDGE OF A SPECIFIC PERIOD, ARTISTIC MOVEMENT, INDIVIDUAL, HISTORICAL EVENT, ETC.

An exhibition statement should include an element of your subjectivity.   How does it make YOU feel? What ideas come to mind by looking at it? This part of the writing should feel friendly and personalized

Exhibition Statement Checklist

Make sure your exhibition has a title! Never forget the power of a colon in titles. For example. Women in the Renaissance: Portraits of Power; Hope and the Afterlife: Egyptian Tomb Painting; The Plague in Europe: Expressing Trauma in Pictures; Mystery and Magic: German Romantic Painting; Power & Beauty: Benin Bronzes from Africa.  Do you see how magical the colon is! You may want to consider as a tool in your title and in future titles as you progress in your academic career goals.

Make sure your exhibition statement states the four works you have chosen, but just titles is sufficient.

Then state the inspiration behind the exhibition -- this is the more personal subjective part and there is no wrong reason to select four works of art.

Formatting parameters and submission guidelines

Formatting requirements for your Exhibition Statement and image captions

The Exhibition Statement needs to be around 500-1000 words

Organization of submission of final presentation
